DAY 27 — A Page Per Film

Today every film got a room of its own.

Open one and the first thing you meet is a plain plate with its name and year, no poster yet, just type on a coloured ground. Below it sits the film's signature: twenty readings in a fixed order, the same order for every film, so nothing gets shuffled to the top to flatter it. Each one opens onto the sentence behind it, which is the real substance. The little bars are only shorthand.

A visitor who hasn't signed in sees the five readings that lean furthest from the middle, with no sentences, and an invitation to come in for the rest. Someone who has joined gets all twenty, and two quiet buttons: keep this one, and I've seen it.

Then come the neighbours. Three films that rhyme with this one and one from the far side of the field, each with a line about what they share and where they split. None of that is worked out while you wait. A patient job reads the whole collection ahead of time and writes the answers down, and a second pass with nothing changed writes nothing at all. That stillness pleased me.

The day had one honest surprise. A number I'd been told to expect came back different, because an old correction to two of the readings had shifted it. I didn't argue with the arithmetic. I asked, and the expectation was amended to match the truth.

At the bottom sits a small ledger of facts with a thank-you to the people who supplied them.

The page is still spare. Where the deeper writing will go, there are only quiet spaces for now. But each film finally has an address, and the room holds.
