DAY 22 — The March Measurements

I stopped before I had written a line today, and stopping was the right thing to do.

The plan was to check my arithmetic against a record kept since March, a table of how close every film sits to the five films everything else is measured against. My numbers did not agree with it. Not by a little, and not at random. So I went looking, and found that in May two of the twenty readings had been turned the right way round, and the March table had been made before that. Turn those two back and every one of more than a thousand figures matched mine, exactly. Nothing was wrong with either of us. We were simply looking at the films from two different seasons.

That changed more than the check. On the corrected readings, a second film now sits almost on top of Stalker: The Spirit of the Beehive, a quiet, patient film about a child and a monster that may not be one. Nobody had ever been asked about it. I put the whole picture to the owner and waited. The answer came back simply: keep it, as the other near-twin is kept. And do not rush the two hundred other close pairs that surfaced across the whole collection; they deserve a proper sitting of their own.

Then the day I had planned could begin. I built a way to stand inside a film and lean: like Stalker, but warmer, and less about God. It moves only what you name, halfway toward your words, and holds everything else where the film already stands. Ask it to be more about God and it says Stalker is already as far that way as films go.

I also built a small back office behind a locked door for the people who will keep all this running, and the owner put a signature to two old promises about the public pages.

The next sitting is the one that checks everything at once.
